About
My name is Jérémie, I live in Alsace, France, and I run Planet Street Workout. I am not a certified coach. I am someone who has been training for more than fifteen years and has tried pretty much every way of getting moving: the gym, CrossFit, group fitness classes, running and, above all, bodyweight training.
Ten years in the gym
It all started in the gym. For about ten years I followed five-day split programmes, using a method I still rely on today: pyramid training, where you add weight set after set based on your max. That is where I learned the basics that apply everywhere: set your back, control the lowering phase, log your weights and never trade technique for one more rep.
CrossFit, Freeletics and the WOD mindset
Then I spent about five years in the world of CrossFit and Freeletics. That is where I discovered the WOD format: a circuit, a timer and the urge to beat your own time next session. Since 2012 my log shows nearly 700 workouts of this kind and more than 50,000 bodyweight reps: push-ups, squats, burpees, sit-ups, pull-ups. Those sessions taught me that you do not need a fully equipped gym to sweat or to make progress.
Fitness, cardio and endurance
I also did a lot of group fitness classes, BodyPump in particular, which I still sometimes do at home in front of the TV. On the endurance side, I ran a marathon in 2012 and took part in muddy obstacle races. Today I play football in a veterans' team, which reminds me every week why a strong, mobile body matters.
Why calisthenics
Over time, bodyweight training became the common thread running through everything else. Calisthenics has something machines lack: you progress on full-body movements, build strength and control at the same time, and can train anywhere, on a park bar or in your living room. With a busy schedule it is also the most realistic option: a few square metres, a pull-up bar and 30 to 45 minutes are enough.
What you will find on this site
Planet Street Workout brings together the workout ideas I wish I had found when I started: WODs sorted by level, from beginner to advanced, circuits targeting a muscle group or a goal, and advice on choosing your equipment. I would rather tell you the truth than sell you a dream: you cannot burn fat from one specific spot by working that muscle, and consistency matters far more than the perfect session.
One important point: this content is for information only. If you are getting back into exercise after a long break or have a health condition, ask a doctor before you start.
